My work engages with social and political issues in direct and palpable ways. I believe that art practice is most interesting when it is both topical and timeless. I see this practice like a journalist or writer expressing an opinion, suggesting an idea, or presenting another way of looking through visual means. Site specifically, the work deals with issues around the place I live. Through my work I reflect on the constructs of global phenomena like ‘war on terror’ or ‘trade liberalization’ and their impact upon my locale.

Crossing points:

This project foregrounds state-sanctioned violence that is perpetrated against economic migrants trying to enter America. The project investigates the limits in the discourse of Rights and tries to highlight how ‘national security’ is bounded by fear. The drawings are traced from photographs of Mexican immigrants being arrested at the South Western borders of the U.S. The text is derived from a Human Rights Watch report on abuses by INS and Border Patrol officials. The drawings are located at random points around the borders of the City of Austin.
